PLANO,
Texas – EDS today announced Modine Manufacturing Company has selected
Solid Edge as its internal mechanical computer-aided design (CAD)
software. Modine plans to
implement more than 70 licenses of Solid Edge over the next three years in
support of its product lifecycle management (PLM) strategy.
Terms of the
contract were not disclosed. The
agreement was finalized during the third quarter of 2001 and was included
in EDS’ new contract totals for that quarter.
Modine
will initially use Solid Edge software to design commercial heating,
ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration products as well as the
machinery that manufactures them. The
company also plans to use Solid Edge for other applications such as
proprietary tooling, plant design as well as in designing additional
products.
A
team of Modine engineers selected Solid Edge citing its superior modeling,
drafting and data management capabilities.
“We felt Solid Edge best met the company’s business objectives,
including the shortening of our design cycle and time to market for Modine
products,” said John Binzak, senior project leader for the Engineering
Systems group at Modine.
“Solid Edge is geared toward the
productivity of machine designers,” says Jeff Eggert, design supervisor
for the Manufacturing Engineering Services group at Modine.
“Solid Edge’s competitive price point allows Modine to expand
CAD across more users, eliminating the current and inefficient use of
several CAD systems.”
Colette Van Beek and Sheila Schnarr,
product engineers in the Commercial HVAC&R Division at Modine,
indicated that Solid Edge benefits will enable reduced design time, fewer
errors and an easier way to maintain accurate drawings for the
manufacturing floor. “The
software also provides a great new way to deliver excellent product
information outside of engineering for use in catalogs and service
manuals,” Van Beek said.
