Fundamentals Training

Alamar Systems, Inc. is a Siemens PLM Solutions SETA certified training partner. The following are the modules that are covered in the 4-day Solid Edge Fundamentals course:

Volume 1 -
Module 1: Exploring Solid Edge

This module will explore the Solid Edge environments, file storage, file retrieval, and general user interface.

Module 2: 2-D Sketches and Layouts
In this module the student will begin to explore the 2-D environment of Solid Edge where they will create layouts, sketches, and some simple parts. The module provides a strong background regarding the tools available in Solid Edge to creaet 2-D profiles such as creation of lines and arcs, trimming, transposition and dimensioning.

Module 3: Primary Features
The student begins to explore the Protrusion, Revolved Protrusion, the Sweep, Loft, and those same features that remove material (Cutout, Revolved Cutout, etc.)

Module 4: Treatment Features
These features modify existing material. Techniques are demonstrated and applied. Features include thin wall, draft, rounds and chamfers, copying features, and management of existing features via the feature tree.

Module 5: Specialized Features
Helix, feature libraries, and plastic features are covered in this module. User will also learn techniques to add embossed and raised text to their parts.

Module 6: Creating Drawings of 3-D Models
The student will learn how to place 2-D views of 3-D models onto a drafting sheet. They will also learn how to manipulate the views and the drafting sheets to get the desired results. Section, detail, auxiliary views are just a few of the many functions that will be explored.

Module 7: Dimensions and Annotations
More on drafting. The student will learn the fundamentals of detailing (dimensions, text, symbols, etc.)

Volume 2 -
Module 1: Sheet Metal

This module covers te basics about sheet metal, how to set up the properties for a part, suggested work flow with respect to sheet metal, and some of the basic features (tab, cutout, flange, etc.)

Module 2: More Sheet Metal
Some of the more advanced sheet metal features are covered during this module. Features such as normal cutouts, breaks, bends and rebends, jogs, closed corners, and others.

Module 3: Assembly Design
The assembly design module will begin to explore the use of Solid Edge Assembly as a design tool. The student will be introduced to the Assembly environment by creating simple assemblies and then work into the concepts of top-down and bottom-up design.

Module 4: More Assembly Design
This module serves as a continuation of the Assembly Design module, covering more advanced assembly topics, such as cutaway views and exploded views.

Module 5: Document Management
Solid Edge provides an intuitive interface for managing the links created between part models, assembly models, and draft views called Revision Manager. Tools are also provided for setting the status of parts as they are released into production. Students will learn to use these tools to efficiently copy, move, and update models, assemblies, and draft files.

Miscellaneous
Other topics will be covered if time allows such as drawing sheet management, template management, rendering, image storage, and further studies on the orientation of profile windows.
